About Malaysia
Malaysia is well-known of its harmonious and peaceful society where various ethnic groups live together with mutual understanding and tolerance since Malaysia was independent in 31st August 1957. Having the multi-racial and multi-culture society, Malaysia is also proud to be dubbed as the "Mini-Asia". All ethnic groups live together in Malaysia for years, created a truly Malaysian culture and naturally beautiful hub. Multiculturalism has made Malaysia a gastronomical paradise and home to hundreds of colorful festivals. As such, Malaysians are very laid back, warm and friendly.
Geographical Area & Location
Malaysia is situated in the South-Eastern Asia region, between 2deg and 7deg to the North of Equator line. The country is separated into two main lands (namely East Malaysia and West Malaysia) by South China Sea. The West Malaysia, also known as Peninsular Malaysia lies with Thailand in the northern part and neighboring with Singapore in the south. The East Malaysia comprises of the states of Sabah and Sarawak is on the island of Borneo, which are bounded with Indonesia and shares borders with Brunei. There are 13 states in Malaysia with total land area of 329,758 square km.
Population & People
Malaysia is having estimated 28.3 million populations by 2010. The country is multi-racial and multi-ethnic with the majorities are the Malays, Chinese and Indians. Malaysian population comprises approximately 67.4% of Bumiputera (Malays and indigenous tribes), 24.6% of Chinese, 7.3% of Indians and 0.7% of other races.

Language
Bahasa Melayu (Malay) is the National Language but English is widely used and spoken. Other dialects such as Cantonese and Hokkien (for Chinese), Tamil and Hindi (for Indians) are commonly used among respective communities.
Religion
Malaysia is a multi-religious society and the Malaysian constitution guarantees religious freedom. Islam, as the state religion is the most widely practiced religion in Malaysia with the proportion of 61.3%, other religions embraced are Buddhism (19.8%), Christianity (9.2%), Hinduism (6.3%). The balance is other minority religions or no religion.
